Overview:
Before the 1920's, America was very wild and rebellious many men and women were drinking, smoking, and promoting sinful activities. Women viewed these activities and fought to bring these sinful acts to an end. Thus the 18th amendment was added to prohibit the sale and consumption of alcohol.
18th Amendment- According to the constitution, the 18th amendment prohibits the sale and consumption of alcohol. The passing of the amendment brought more ravage and violence in the U.S. rather than peace. More organized crime occurred as well "speakeasies" were created to continue drinking alcoholic beverages.
With the passing of the 18th amendment, organized crime was at an all time high. Since it was illegal to buy or consume alcohol bandits such as Al Capone found ways to import and sell alcohol in the United States. This was accomplished by like minded individuals and establishments such as speakeasies which were secret bars which still allowed the consumption of alcohol.
21st Amendment- After months of outcry the American people were heard. The 21st amendment to the constitution repeals the 18th amendment thus making it legal again to consume alcoholic beverages. It is the only amendment to be ratified under a state ratifying convention.
